Activities include guided game drives, boat cruises, angling expeditions and traditional Mokoro canoe trips down the river. Guided birding and nature walks are a rewarding experience, as are the cultural walks through traditional villages.
Various species of Tilapia, Sharptooth Catfish, Nembwe as well as the legendary Tiger fish are some of the fish species that entice anglers to wet their lines at this popular spot. Daily game drives to the Mahangu and Buffalo Core Areas in an open vehicle is a truly magnificent experience.
Various wildlife species that one can expect to see are wild dog, lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, Letchwe, Sitatunga, hippo, crocodile and a host of other antelope species. The area is also home to the largest herds of sable and roan antelope in Africa.
The region is home to an estimated 430 species of birds with over 20 endemic or near endemic species. Many special species include Rock Pranticole, Yellow Wagtail, Wattled Crane, Great Snipe, African Rail and African Skimmers. The Mahangu Core Area has recently been proclaimed as a Ramsar Site.
